Stock gainers:
Shares of Applied Materials Inc.

rose 1.6% after the supplier of chip-industry equipment reported earnings and forecast an outlook that topped Wall Street expectations.
Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc.’s stock
HE,
was up by 6.3% after the utility, which has been struggling as a result of the wildfires in Hawaii, said it’s not planning to restructure.
Shares of Bloomin’ Brands Inc.
BLMN,
climbed 7.2% after a report in the Wall Street Journal that activist investor Starboard Value had amassed a stake in the Outback Steakhouse owner.
Shares of Ross Stores Inc.
ROST,
rose 5.4% after the retailer beat Wall Street expectations for its second quarter and raised its guidance, saying budget-conscious customers are “responding well” to its off-price offerings.
Stock decliners:
China-listed ADRs were under pressure as the People’s Bank of China boosted its yuan defense and property developer China Evergrande Group filed for bankruptcy protection in New York late Thursday.
Shares of JD.com Inc.

Bilibli Inc.
BILI,
and NIO Inc.
NIO,
all fell by more than 5% as losses mounted from earlier in the session. Shares of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
BABA,
dropped 3.8%.
Deere & Co.’s stock
DE,
fell 4% after the agricultural equipment maker said its fourth-quarter profit could fall short of expectations at the lower end of its project range.
Estee Lauder Inc’s. stock
EL,
dropped 2.3% after the cosmetics company posted better-than-expected earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter but offered guidance that lagged consensus.
Shares of Farfetch Ltd.
FTCH,
moved lower by 34% after the luxury fashion company reported sales that were below Wall Street expectations.
Keysight Technologies Inc.’s stock
KEYS,
tumbled 12% following a disappointing outlook from the electronics-design and test-solutions company.
Tesla Inc.’s stock
TSLA,
dropped another 3% on Friday, extending its losses to a sixth straight session, its worst streak since a seven-session losing run in December.
