KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia–Malaysia’s consumer-price growth slowed in June, mainly due to lower food prices.
The consumer-price index rose 2.4% in June from a year earlier, the country’s Department of Statistics said Monday. That compares with a 2.8% rise in May and in line with the median forecast for an increase of 2.4% taken from a survey of five economists by The Wall Street Journal.
Food and nonalcoholic beverages prices, which have a 29.5% weighting, rose 4.7%, easing from the 5.9% gain in May.
Core inflation, which strips out volatile prices of fresh food as well as prices of government-administered goods, rose 3.1% in June.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices in June increased 0.2%, the same as for May.
